  • Sep-2023 / We started project on re-orchestrating Korean traditional court music, funded by National Gugak Center.

  • Sep-6-2023 / One paper got accepted to HCMIR. Minhee Lee, an undergraduate intern in MALer lab contributed as the first author, collaborating with SeungHeon Doh from KAIST MAC Lab.

  • Jul-20-2023 / MALer Lab participated MUSIC & AUDIO WORKSHOP 2023 with SNU MARG, KAIST MAC, and KAIST MuBL.

  • Jul-12-2023 / I was invited as a reviewer and committee member of thesis defense of Michael Krause, a PhD student from Prof. Meinard Müller’s group at International Audio Laboratories Erlangen. After the defense, I gave research talk at AudioLabs and have discussion with Prof. Müller’s group. Huge congratulations to Dr. Krause!

  • Jul-11-2023 / One paper got accepted to CMMR. Hyerin Kim, a master’s student in MALer Lab participated as the second author collaborating with Eunjin Choi from KAIST MAC Lab.

  • June-21-2023 / Two papers got accepted to ISMIR 2023! Danbinaerin Han, a master’s student in MALer Lab contributed as the first author, collaborating with Dr. Rafael Caro Repetto from Kunstuniversität Graz. Another paper was done by Pedro Ramoneda and others from UPF MTG, and I’ve participated as a co-author.

  • May-30-2023 / My group got accepted for Individual Research funding from National Research Foundation (NRF) of Korea for topic of Generating Gagok, Traditional Korean Lyric Song.

  • Mar-2023 / Three papers got accepted for domestic journals.

  • Feb-16-2023 / One paper has been accepted to ICASSP 2023. The work was done by KASIT MAC Lab, and I have participated as a co-author.

  • Feb-10-2023 / In Ai Music Generation Challenge 2022, our submission won first-prize award in generating Irish Reel! Our submission for sub-task 2 and 3 also beat the benchmark.

  • Feb-3-2023 / Jiin An, an intern at MALer Lab, has won excellence award in HCI Korea 2023 Creative Award track. The work had been started as a term project of AAT3020, Natural Language Processing course given by Dasaem Jeong.

  • Jan 2023 / I will serve as an area chair of ICML 2023.

  • Dec 2022 / MALer Lab participated ISMIR 2023. Danbinaerin Han, a Master’s student, performed Fantastic AI Sinawi with 해금Haegeum during the Music Program. Total seven people participated from Sogang University, which was the largest group among entire East Asia!

  • June-30-2022 / One paper got accepted for ACM Multimedia as a second author. It was joint research with Pedro Ramoneda, Marius Miron, and Xavier Serra from Music Technology Group, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, and Eita Nakamura from Kyoto University.

  • June 2022 / My group got accepted for two fundings: 1) Individual Research funding from National Research Foundation (NRF) of Korea for topic of Expressive Performance Modeling, and 2) Dataset composition for acoustic scene and sound from NIA, with NeuTune and KAIST MAC Lab.

  • May 2022 / I will serve as an area chair of NeurIPS 2022. I’ll do my best to contribute this great community.

  • Feb-25-2022 / I was invited to Dagstuhl Semniar 22082 “Deep Learning and Knowledge Integration for Music Audio Analysis”. It was a absolutely fantastic experience to spend a full week to discuss and playing music with these inspiring and humorous colleagues.

  • Jan-7-2022 / It was a great honor for VirtuosoNet to participate a recital of a world-renowned soprano, Sumi Jo at KAIST. VirtuosoNet performed Turkish March arranged by Volodos and accompanied Sumi Jo for “I Could Have Danced All Night”. The score of accompaniment part was transcribed by Hyerin Kim, and Dasaem programmed VirtuosoNet and generated the performances with post-processing for tempo adjustment.

  • Oct-29-2021 / Our AI Pianist VirtuosoNet participated in a media art exhibition by NohLab. The exhibition was held for Reopen of Atatürk Cultural Center, which is one of the icon of Istanbul.

  • Sep-2-2021 / I gave a seminar for LG AI Research with a title of “Modeling Expressive Performance with Deep Learning”

  • Sep-1-2021 / I’ve been appointed as an assistant professor at the Department of Art & Technology at Sogang University, Seoul. Founded in 2011, Dept of Art & Technology is one of the leading programs for interdisciplinary studies in arts and technologies in South Korea.

  • Jul-26-2021 / Our AI Pianist, VirtuosoNet, performed a piano concerto ‘3-dimensional Chopin’ composed by Hana Ryou accompanied by Gimpo Philharmonic Orchestra. I made and post-processed the performance and also control the performance so that the piano could be synchronized with the orchestra.

  • Feb-16-2021 / Our AI Pianist, VirtuosoNet, had a duet piano performance with pianist Jong Hwa Park in the ceremony of the 50th anniversary of KAIST. I’ve improved VirtuosoNet to generate better performance and also implemented the 3D visualization on the background.
